Cougar Surpassion Overview

Cougar is one of the most famous brands all over the peripheral world. They've produced some decent high-end mice and their most recent one is called the Surpassion. This is Mashhud Hasan from Frenzyweb360 and today I'm going to give my overview of Cougar Surpassion.

Cougar Surpassion has a decent outer parts. It has a rubberized texture beside it's thumb rest and the ledge. These rubberized side grip helps to lift the mouse off without slipping it down. It's basic structure of body is made of solid plastic which is quite comfortable at gripping. Even though it's made of plastic but doesn't feel like hollow. Rubberized grip has a groovy texture which is important since it's comparably a thin mouse. It also has some wide shaped slip pads so that the mouse can be glided with ease. This mouse is a little bit bigger than Logitech G102, slightly smaller than Deathadder and it's shape is pretty much similar with Cougar 300M. It has a width of around 6.5cm & it's length is somewhere around 12cm. So it doesn't have that perfect 2:1 ratio but it's very much acceptable. It weights only 97 grams which is a plus-point for  the FPS gamers.

Surpassion has some brilliant features. It has an LCD screen which is located just above the rear slip pad. It has two functioned buttons positioned at the both side of the screen and they're for increasing/decreasing the DPI and display it on the screen. It's Lift-off distance and Polling rate(125Hz to 1kHz) can also be customized. It has a Cougar logo located on the palm rest which can be glowed by different colors according to customization.

It has a total of 7 buttons including 2 buttons for increasing/decreasing the DPI, left & right click, a scroll wheel and two side buttons. According to it's users, it's left and right clicks have a hollow feeling while clicking but they are pretty solid but not clicky. It's scroll wheel is rubberized but doesn't have any groovy texture on it which may cause some problems while scrolling it fast. It has a rubberized cable that creates some friction with the surface that may affect your gaming. So mouse bungee is definitely preferred.

Surpassion contains PMW3330 optical sensor that can run on 50 to  7200 DPI. This sensor is very accurate, doesn't have any noticeable acceleration or deceleration and it also doesn't skip any pixels at optimum DPI level. It doesn't spin out while flicking it fast. This mouse allows you to enable or disable angle snapping for it's sensor. Due to having a mid-range tracking speed, this mouse can accurately and reliably record all of the movements with good precision. But it's tracking speed should've been more than usual since it's an FPS mouse. It has an Infrared Ray emitter to illuminate the surface. So it's sensor might not track fluently at shiny surfaces.

This mouse's Micro Controller Unit is impressive. It can run up to whopping 1000Hz and it has a 4-way SPI(Serial Peripheral Interface) which lets both sensor and controller to have 2-way data lines and allows to communicate fast and accurately. That's the reason this mouse doesn't have any delay and doesn't decelerate while getting flicked fast. Due to having a good MCU, it's sensor's captured  surface images get processed with faster clock speed to calculate the physical movement, convert it to cursor movement and all of these processing steps get implemented without any delay and that's what makes a mouse snappy.

So now I'm going to highlight it's pros and cons

Pros
  • contains comfort grooves on the rubberized texture
  • high amount of polling rate
  • 4-way SPI connection
  • it has many customization options
  • wide shaped gliding pad
  • LCD screen to display DPI, LOD and polling rate
  • low weight (97g)
  • FPS oriented design
Cons
  • contains IR emitter to illuminate the surface
  • hollow feeling while clicking
  • no groovy textures on scroll wheel
  • length and width ratio isn't 2:1
So, these are the facts and information that should be known before buying this mouse. Hope this will help the viewers and stay tuned for more.
