Bangladesh's highest successful run chase in T20 internationals

Last night what Bangladeshi tigers did was absolutely unbelievable. The cricket world witnessed something very special. The Bangladeshi cricket lovers witnessed something incredible. Really it was an amazing run chase. Hello everybody, this is Tanim from frenzytitans360. Today I've come up with a new content. In today's content I am going to write about Bangladesh's highest successful run chase in T20 international. This was the 3rd match of the Nidahas trophy 2018 which was played between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka at Premadasa stadium, Colombo. Bangladesh won the match by 5 wickets and 2 bowls remaining. This win was very important for Bangladesh to get their lost confidence back. Before this match they had lost 4 matches in a row. They also lost their first match against India. So this win was important for Bangladesh to remain alive in the tournament.

For this match The wicket of Premadasa was absolute batting Paradise. The pitch was very flat. It was very fresh and there was nothing for the bowlers. Bangladesh's captain Mahmudullah won the toss and elected to field first. And it was quite assuming. Because chasing is lot easier than defending at Premadasa. Danushka Gunathilaka and kusal Mendis came out to bat. And they had only one thing in their mind and that is to go after the bowlers. Both of them were really aggressive. They played lots of shots and picked up boundaries. They were really enjoying themselves. No Bangladeshi bowler was able to put the breaks on the scoring rate. Both the openers were striking the ball cleanly. Taskin Ahmed was very expensive. He conceded 22 runs in the 4 th over. But then finally Mustafizur provided the break through. He got the wicket of Gunathilaka who scored 26 runs and Sri Lanka scored 70 runs in the powerplay.

It really gave them the platform to post a big total. Then kusal parera came out to bat who is another aggressive and explosive batsman. The fall of wicket did not stop Sri Lankan batsman's. Perera started to play his shots from the right go. But it was really kusal mendis who was playing amazingly. He was really timing the ball well and striking it cleanly. Every Bangladeshi bowler's were getting hit for 4 and 6. They did not know what to do. Kusal Mendis reached fifty. It was his 3rd international T20 fifty and all of them he scored against Bangladesh. In the 15 th over Mahamudullah came to bowl and got the wicket of kusal Mendis. Kusal perera and Mendis built a partnership of 85 runs. In the same over he got the wicket of Shanaka and in the next over Taskin got the wicket of Dinesh Chandimal. Suddenly Sri Lanka was 150/4. So Bangladesh got some control back. But again it was their death over bowling that really let them down. The fall of wickets did not stop kusal parera. He continued to play his shots. He also scored a fifty. Upul tharanga was also playing well. He was also hitting the ball well. Bangladeshi bowler's were really taken apart. Rubel hossain was very expensive in the death. He was bowling length bowls. He was not targeting the block hole. Perera was out in the last over by Mustafiz. He finished scoring 74 runs. Really it was a tremendous innings. Tharanga scored 29 runs from 14 ball. It was a very important cameo. Bangladesh conceded 64 runs in the last 5 overs and Sri Lanka ended up scoring 214 runs losing 6 wickets. It was a huge total. Overall Sri Lankan batsman's were outstanding.

Bangladesh did not have any record of chasing a total over 200 runs in T20's. Well, talking about 200 runs they never scored 200 runs in international T20's. Their highest successful run chase was against west Indies in the T20 world cup 2007. They chased down 164 runs. So chasing 215 was a huge task for them. Nobody in Bangladesh and also the supporters in the stadium did not have the believe that Bangladesh can chase this total down. So They were on the verge of another defeat. But it was not impossible though. Because the pitch was flat. To chase such a massive target a team need to have a proper game plan. To chase 215 runs Bangladesh needed to utilize the powerplay. Liton Das was the part of Bangladesh's proper game plan. They sent him instead of regular opener Soumya Sarkar so that he can give his team a good start. And it paid off very nicely. From the start Liton Das started to play his shots. Because he had the licensee to be aggressive. He used his fit well against the spinners. He played some wonderful shots in the leg side. He hit some sixes just by the flick of the rist. He hit total 5 sixes which was really amazing. Because Liton Das was not known for his six hitting ability. He really timed the ball perfectly. He was striking the ball cleanly. He was punishing every Sri Lankan bowler. Undoubtedly it was his best international T20 innings. He proved that he is a good T20 batsman. On the other hand his opening partner Tamim Iqbal was batting with pure class. He hit some glorious shots. He was playing shots and also was rotating the strike. It was a good approach from him. Because he knew as a senior batsman he needs to bat through the innings. That is why Liton was able to play with freedom. So both of them were really enjoying batting. But then Liton Das was deceived by a slower delivery bowled by pradeep. He was given LBW. So Bangladesh lost their first wicket in the last over of the powerplay. Tamim and liton scored 74 runs together and Bangladesh scored 74 runs in the first six overs. So it really set them up to chase this big target. Then many Bangladeshi supporters believed that they might witness something special tonight.

After the departure of Liton the scoring rate became slow. Because Soumya Sarkar was struggling to time the ball. But Tamim was batting outstandingly. They built a slow partnership of 26 runs from 22 bowls. Then Tamim was out by a short bowl bowled by Thisara Perera. He scored 47 runs. It was a very good innings. At that time Bangladesh was in a spot of bother. Because Tamim was the man who needed to bat till the end. So Bangladesh's hope of winning the game was gone. No one believed that they can win now. But coming to bat at number 4 Mushfiqur Rahim proved them wrong. The moment he came out to bat he looked to be positive. Because the required was jumping high. So attack was the best option. It was a tremendous counter attack by Soumya and Mushfiq. But Mushfiq was absolutely brilliant. He was striking the ball perfectly. He hit some huge sixes in the leg side. Soumya was giving him a good support. Suddenly Bangladesh was back in the match. But again they lost another wicket. This time it was Soumya. Then captain Mahamudullah came out to bat. Bangladesh needed 58 runs to win in the last 5 overs. So it was a tough ask for them. But hopefully mushfiqur was in the middle.

Thisara perera came to bowl the 16th over. He is a death over bowling specialist. But the match turned into Bangladesh's side in this over. They scored 18 runs from this over. So they needed 40 runs in the last 4 overs. Bangladesh got the control of the match. Mushfiqur Rahim scored his fifty from 26 bowls. It was his 3rd international T20 fifty. And it was a match winning one. When this two were batting Bangladeshi supporters were afraid . Because in 2016 T20 world cup the match against India Bangladesh needed 2 runs from 3 deliveries and this two were in middle. But both of them got out And Bangladesh lost the match. When mahmudullah got out in the 18 th over it was quite happening. But he scored an important 20 runs from 11 balls. But not this time. Mushfiq did not let it happen this time. He was absolutely brilliant. He kept his cool. But again Bangladesh lost a wicket in the 19th over. shabbir was run out. Suddenly the task was 16 runs from 8 balls. Bangladesh desperately needed a boundary at that time. Mushfiq hit a huge six over mid wicket. The ball travelled 94 meters. Bangladesh was right back in the match with that six. Bangladesh needed 9 runs to win in the last over. So it was quite easy for them. Parera took the ball to bowl the last over. Mushfiq hit a four in the 2nd ball. Suddenly the task was 3 runs from 4 balls. So the match was quite done and dusted with that four. Then finally the winning moment came. Perera bowled a low fool toss and mushfiq flicked it towards the mid wicket. He ran very comfortably. He reached the popping crease and was screaming in delight. He celebrated this wonderful victory with a cobra dance. It was really happy moment for the Bangladeshi supporters.

Really it was a fantastic run chase by Bangladesh. It was the 4th highest successful run chase in International T20's. Australia, West indies and England are respectively in 1st 2nd and 3rd position. Mushfiqur was the key player to this run chase. He remained not out scoring 72 runs from 35 balls. It was one of the best innings of Bangladesh cricket in T20's. Bangladeshi cricket lovers will remember this victory for a long long time. That's it for today. Let me know how you feel about this wonderful victory in the comment section. Very soon I'm going to write another content.
