Barry Richards,a shadowed legend

no cricketer in the world have made such impact and over-rise the speculation of what ability he used to have by playing only 4 test matches like Barry Richards did.yes, you heard right,he's a legend who has played only 4 test matches.so why he is known for being the builder of cricket?to find that out, keep sticking your eyes on the screen.it's Mashhud Hasan and once again from frenzyweb360.

Barry Anderson Richards was born on July 21st,1945 in Durham,South africa.some of the major teams he has played for are South africa national team,Gloucestershire,Natal,Hampshire,South Australia and many.within only 4 test matches,he has showed his worth of being a legend.first off, let's highlight his international career.

well,he has played only 7 innings.he debuted in 1970 against Australia at Capetown and scored 29 runs out of 87 balls.interesting fact is,this is his lowest innings in test cricket.which means,he never faced anything known as downfall.always played with his head raised.very soon after debut,he scored a brilliant hundred in the same series at his hometown Durban, scored 140 by facing only 164 balls.in that same series he scored another hundred at Port Elizabeth.this time he played with temperament and calmness, scored 126 runs by facing 212 balls.he has a total of 2 hundreds and 2 fifties with an average of whipping 72.57 and a strikerate of 59.48.

well,to be honest you just can't know his legacy with only seeing his test career.you have to give a look at his first-class and list-A career.he has played 339 first-class matches with over 28,000 runs at an average of 54.74,having a total of 80 hundreds and 152 fifties.he also played 233 list-A matches where he scored a total of 8,503 runs at an average of 40.12 with 16 hundreds and 50 fifties.

not to mention he was quite good with the bowl.he was a right arm off-break bowler and took a total of 77 wickets in first-class cricket with a best bowling figure of 7/63.but bowling didn't help him reach the peak of cricket.his batting is what made him a legend.if we think technical about his batting,we'll see a highlight of a true batsman.he proved that you can still bat and score tons of runs without having a decent footwork.every shot he had played are representing how great he was.he never had a good footwork but still,he used to score many runs.he used to lay his bat on the ground at his stance and used to backlift just before the bowler's releasing time of the ball.he used to play those vicious cover drives without stepping his front foot towards the ball.well, these doesn't mean he was a calm and quiet guy.he used to thrash bowler with his power hitting ability.since he was a really good timer of hitting the bowl and used to play with proper shot selections and placement,it was quite easy for him to find the gap to bash the bowl through boundary.in an innings of 126 runs against Lancashire at 1972 where he played some of his aggressive shots like hitting a six with a slog sweet through the square leg, coming down the track and playing leg glance, hitting enormous amount of cover drives, powered hook and many.

well, the generation he has played in,that time it was tough as hell to bat.that time there was no pitch curator to flatten your track and make it smooth for batting.and batsmen never had good bats that are full of strokes like current cricketers are having.here's a picture above where Barry is holding a bat of David Warner and a bat of his own.bat that he's holding at left hand is David Warner's thick-ass Gray Nicolls KABOOM bat while the bat that he's holding at right is the bat with which he scored an innings of 325 runs in a day at WACA,in 1970.after having such obstructions in the front, still none of those obstacles have stopped Barry from scoring huge amount of runs.

South africa has many legends like they used to have Jacques Kallis,Neil McKenzie,Boeta Dippenaar,Graeme Smith,Hansie Cronje,Lance Klusener and still having Hashim Amla,AM de Villiers,Faf du Plessis and maybe they'll have many greats in future.but none of them are like Barry Richards,he's one and only,a living legend who has always been under the shadow.cricket world will forever be owed to him.
